The Middle: Part Two

I recently wrote an article on The Middle, which, by my definition, is the space between one life and the next. The article was the epitome of optimism, a great trait to have when your life is basically a collection of moving parts.
But something in me tells me there’s got to be The Middle: Part Two because, hey, it’s not all sunshine and flowers. And when the mind and body decide to stop cooperating, it’s a whole new ball game. I've been holed up trying to make sense of it all.
The flip side of the middle:
Little things break your heart
Every day feels like eternity
Energy becomes a scarce resource
You're hungry all the time?
You would just... rather be... alone
The view that once inspired, motivated, and excited me now feels like a reminder of all the things I haven’t (and probably won’t) accomplish. Basically, this is the other side of the coin. When I said nobody talks about the middle, I meant this part. This part is best forgotten. The pessimist should reside in the shadows.
Eventually, though, you get your enthusiasm back. Your motivation surfaces. Your energy is restored. You forget how difficult it was. Until it happens again. And you feel like your world is collapsing. All over again.
So I write as a reminder of a fundamental truth: What goes up must come down.
All good things come to an end. Everything is temporary, even the good times. The highs come with the lows. The beginnings, with the endings, and it’s all part of the story.
Whether you like it or not.
